Manatee Springs State Park Dive
Saturday, February 8, 2020
Manatee Springs is an excellent site to scuba dive or snorkel. The first-magnitude spring at this park produces an average of 100 million gallons of clear, cool water daily. In winter, West Indian manatees swim upriver to the warmer waters of the springs. Popular for snorkeling and scuba diving, the headwaters of the spring are also a great spot for swimming. The spring run forms a sparkling stream that meanders through hardwood wetlands to the Suwannee River. This large basin has a max depth of 25-30 feet.
About 200 yards away, there is Catfish Hotel Sink. This sinkhole has a cave system that has been linked to Manatee Spring. Max depth is around 50-60 feet before you enter into the cave system. Only certified cave divers are allowed to enter the cave system. Admission is $6.00 per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people per vehicle. $4.00 Single Occupant Vehicle. Diving: spring, open water and cave diving is included with regular admission. All divers are required to register with the office prior to diving. Bring all your own gear including tanks & weights. There is no dive shop on site. One or two tank dives – depends on you. One tank may be sufficient for two dives in the spring depending on your air consumption. We will be diving the main spring head and Catfish Hotel Sink. Bring your lunch for a picnic in between dives.
Meet at the park @ 10 a.m. E-mail Erik if you are planning to attend.
